This week I started cardio twice a day. Is this ok? Some people have said to me its "too much." I do 30 minutes on the bike right when I wake up. Then in the evening when I go do my workout I do another 30 after. Im pretty sure I read on here before someone suggesting cardio twice ( from one of the top dogs) I did a search but didnt find anything.

i do my cardio twice a day a few weeks out from a show (say, at the 8 week mark) IF I NEED TO!!!!!

if you aren't competing, and just trying to lose some body fat, once a day is sufficient IMO.

but again, i suggest HIIT instead of bike riding, it burns more calories. i do alot of off road mountain bike riding but never count it as my cardio....i HATE cardio with a passion.....

so, for you my always annoying stairmaster..... :usuck

it's a form of high intensity interval cardio.

for example~
using an elliptical (or treadmill, or stairmaster most have the "interval" program in them) start at a moderate pace for 2 minutes, then "sprint" for 30 seconds...repeat for 20 minutes.

I do a variation of HIT when I loose an ab to the pizza monster.

Go to a parking structure, 9 floors is what I use, run up, full speed to the top, hit the elevator button while you try to catch your breath, that the ride back down and do it again. Repeat as needed.
Mornings are best for these because people don't like being hit by big sweaty guys running into them. lol

This WILL kick your ass.

Sprint fo 30 slow down for 2 minutes////repeat..... Im late on this ...Why does this work better anyone know the dynamics?

HIIT will not only help your cardiovascular system, but will train the Anaerobic, ATP/CP system as well. Not only will you increase your cardiovascular endurance but improve your raw speed and explosiveness as well!

Conclusion

I will let the studies speak for themselves. HIIT provides a more effective workout in much less time! Everyone can benefit from HIIT cardio whether it be the person who is trying to lose weight or the professional football player training for the upcoming NFL season! Give HIIT a try and I am sure that you will not go back to the traditional way of performing cardio again!

ive done both ways, and IMO i think walking at a brisk pace on an incline at a good heart rate level for a longer period of time like 1 hour is better than doing HIT for 15-30 minutes...from my experience i did HIT in intervals, for about 30 minutes, really fast for 1 minute then walking for 1 minute, etc.... well i got the leanest i had ever been but i lost 2 inches on my arms and bodyparts, i weighed myself every morning and during 2-3 days i lost like 5-6 lbs which i know had to have been muscle....but now I have been doing 1 hour of cardio 3 times a week for 1 hour after eating a protein shake, the HIT was done on an empty stomach...im still 10-15 lbs from my goal but i have a lot more saved muscle...

p.s. while doing the slow cardio and dieting, i actually gained an inch on my arms...naturally? this happen to anybody else cause i was surprised.

I prefer to do my cardio this way as well. I would rather walk briskly for an hour, as opposed to doing high intensity cardio for 20 minutes simply because I have tried both ways and came up 5 kilos leaner doing my cardio for a moderate pace for a longer period of time, for my nationals comp! This is what works for me and I am sticking with it!

I have a serious training advantage over most of you guys just because I live in Florida. Every morning I borrow my neighbors puppy and go for a walk. As soon as I get near the lake gators start flying out. Nothing burns calories like zig zag running & dragging a puppy on a leash.

Neighbors can't figure out why the damn dog shits all over the floor when I ring the door bell in the morning. I call him Pavlov.
