This was from two years ago...I'm 23 now...they've since grown.
Maybe I have it all wrong.

I guess I'm just so fond of power movements that I can't help but to recommend them. I see so many guys that want "overall size" and they neglect power movements because they hurt or they're too fucken hard to do. I still think your deadlifts have had a lot to do with your trap devolopment-directly or indirectly. I think we've answered the original question. COMBINATION OF EXERCISES!!!

My routine for traps is dumbell shrugs and upright rows, i do 3-4 sets of 16 reps. I dunno, I just like the number for traps. I work traps on back day, i also hit them pretty good when i do heavy t-bar rows where im pulling toward my chest.

i usually start off with upright rows with a weight i can only do about 6-8 times. then i superset heavy shrugs with dumbbell shrugs until failure. have gotten pretty good results so far.

how can you NOT feel the stretch on the traps when performing heavy deads...i mean the weight is hanging from the traps...right?deads have def contributed to my traps as well as behind the neck presses for me...

my gyms dumbells only go up to 100 lbs. that is not enough for a good warm up set for traps. heavy shrugs the only way to go.

If you're not even feeling a pump in your traps how are you going to develop size??? If I'm wrong then show me an article in Flex or Muscle and Fitness where they suggest using powermovements for developing large traps. You won't find one.

Jacked, I've seen your pics man, and you are amazing. you obviously know what your doing, and it looks like you got some pretty good genetics w/ it, a great combo. But c'mon, you can't be bring up mag's like muscle and fiction, and flex is one big advertisement. those mags don't have near the info of a forum like this one.

As far as the power movements vs shrugs debate...i think the people that said a combo of the two work best are right. There are people that got huge traps from just deads and cleans, there are people with huge traps from just shrugs, but for many reasons its prolly your best bet to combine 'em. shit you should be doin deads even if you dont' care about traps! Also jacked, you said you do deads in your routine too, so it looks like your traps were built by deads as well shrugs, even though you emphasise the shrugs obviously.

How are traps built by deads and other powermovements? Prolly kinda like the way somebody who does lots of heavy back movements and curl's without straps can develope a killer grDragon Pharma without any direct forearm work.

BTW jacked, do you use straps on the 600lb shrug? i was shrugging 5 wheels for reps w/ straps, then decided to try to wean myself off them (for grip). Its tough! Major props if you can do it w/o straps....shit major props for 600 no matter what.
