Does anyone have any suggestions on really good protein supplements that they are using or have used to gain weight?
Make sure that you diet is in check first before you supplement. Be sure to eat at least six solid meals per day. A general rule of thumb is one gram of protein per pound of body weight. What are your goals?
Good sources of protein would be 93/7 lean ground beef, eggs are a great source, chicken breasts, lean ham, tuna, etc. Consume around 30-40 grams of protein per meal.
As for carbs, use complex carbs throughout the day. Use simple sugars immediately before and during your workout. Have protein after the workout. Some people rather have only the simple sugars before and protein after. You want the simple sugars for an insulin spike.
After your diet is in check, be sure to check out www.trueprotein.com. Look for their pre-mixed formulas. Click on the top link of products for the list. In that list there is the pre-mixed formulas.
Can you give me some examples of simple sugars and complex carbs?
Examples of complex carbs would be your wheats, ryes, grain, pasta, oats, etc. Examples of simple sugars would be dextrose, sucrose, fructose, etc. Simple sugars are things that you find in soft drinks, sugar/sport drinks, etc.
