I don't know if you guys eat yams, but I think they are the best high glycemic you can eat, when I diet, everything revolves around yams and oats.
6oz canned yams(unsweetened)
2 pkts. equal
1 tblsp pbutter
cinnamon
little vanilla flavoring
little paprika
mush it all up in a bowl with a fork and put in the micro for 1 minute. Good as pumpkin pie. Takes about 2 minutes to make
Thanks, Buff.
I was looking for a way to make yams but I couldnt find anything. How do the canned version compare with the actually vegie. Do they add alot of sodium or preservatives to it?
I was thinking about steaming a few yams and adding your ingredients but if the canned ones work, then I'll do that then.
they're not as good as fresh ones, but not a whole lotta preservatives either. If you want the long way, use the fresh ones and wrap them in foil and slice them open like a potatoe and bake them @ 400.....can't remember how long, but you'll know, cuz they start getting pretty dark on the inside. then take them out, let them cool a bit and make them up with a beater.
Thanks, I'll give it a try.
Sounds good.......
What's the rating on yams anywho? I thought they were low to moderate GI rating..... like 65 or something....
Yam's? Blah.. you mean Sweet Potatoes. 😀 Eat many every week... even grow 'em in the summer. Good stuff...

Yams are rated at 54 on the glycemic index
Glucose
Baked white potatoes
Honey
Watermelon and
white bread are all above 70 on the index.
Of course there are many many more but this is just an idea
Low glycemic carbs that would also be as good as Yams (sweet potatoes) are:
Brown rice - 55
Banana - 50
Oranges - 43
Apple Juice - 41
Apples - 36 (why it is lower i don't know)
Skim Milk - 32 and
Grapefruit - 25
Hope this helps a bit

I haven't touched white bread in years.
I'll stick to my multi grain and whole wheat.
